Why global buyers choose I.M. International for yarn supply

Extensive Warehousing Capacity

Our large-scale warehousing across Melbourne holds ready stock of the highest-demand cotton, wool, polyester and blended yarn — meaning shorter lead times when you need urgent supply and stable inventory when you're forecasting a season ahead. Consistent stock levels keep your production line running whether you're a fabric mill in Bangladesh, a knitwear producer in Italy, or a garment manufacturer in Melbourne.

Strong Industry Expertise

Twenty-four years of yarn trading, built on relationships with vetted spinning mills across India, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Turkey and Italy. We understand yarn count systems (Ne, Nm, Tex), certification frameworks (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, BCI, GRS, RWS), international shipping (FOB, CIF, DDP) and buyer specifications — so you get the right yarn at the right specification, sourced from the right mill, first time.

Reliable & Timely Supply

Ship from Melbourne under your preferred Incoterms — FOB, CIF, CFR or DDP — with typical transit times of 12–25 days to Southeast Asia, 28–40 days to Europe, and 30–45 days to South America. Every consignment carries pre-shipment quality inspection reports and full certification documentation, so your customs clearance and quality assurance teams have everything they need on arrival.

Certified Yarn Supply You Can Verify

Certifications are the strongest guarantee of what is in — and what is not in — your yarn. We supply against every major international textile certification, with documentation that satisfies buyer compliance, customs authorities and consumer-facing brand claims.
Every certification listed is verifiable via the issuing body’s public certificate database — we provide certificate numbers with every relevant shipment so buyers can independently confirm scope and validity. Additional REACH conformity declarations available for EU-bound shipments.

Yarn Expertise You Can Rely On

Buying yarn requires more than comparing prices—it requires technical knowledge. With over 24 years of experience in the yarn trade, we understand the specifications that matter and the details that keep production running smoothly. Here are some of the key fundamentals we work with every day.

How Yarn Count Is Measured

Yarn count indicates the thickness or fineness of a yarn, but different industries use different measurement systems.

Ne (English Cotton Count) and Nm (Metric Count) are indirect count systems, where higher numbers indicate finer yarns.

Tex, dtex, and Denier are direct count systems, where higher numbers indicate thicker yarns.

Typically:

  • Cotton and cotton-blend yarns are specified in Ne.
  • Wool and worsted yarns commonly use Nm.
  • Polyester and synthetic filament yarns are generally measured in Denier or dtex.

We work confidently across all yarn count systems, ensuring your requirements are interpreted accurately, regardless of the specification standard.

Combed vs. Carded Cotton — Which Is Right?

The difference lies in the preparation process.

Carded cotton yarn is produced by aligning fibres without removing the shorter ones, resulting in a durable, economical yarn with a slightly coarser texture. It is commonly used for denim, workwear, towels, and everyday knitwear.

Combed cotton yarn undergoes an additional combing process that removes short fibres and impurities. This creates a cleaner, smoother, softer, and more lustrous yarn, making it the preferred choice for premium T-shirts, fine knitwear, shirting, and high-quality apparel.

The fibre is the same—the processing is different, and so is the end use. We supply both carded and combed yarns to suit your product requirements.

OEKO-TEX® vs. GOTS — Understanding the Difference

Although both certifications promote quality and sustainability, they serve different purposes.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certifies that the finished yarn has been tested for harmful substances and meets internationally recognised safety standards. It focuses on product safety.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certifies that the yarn is produced from certified organic fibres and that every stage of processing meets strict environmental and social criteria. It focuses on organic integrity and responsible manufacturing.

Many international buyers require both certifications—OEKO-TEX® for consumer safety and GOTS for organic assurance and supply chain traceability. Where applicable, we provide complete certification documentation with every shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What yarn types does I.M. International supply?
Seven core categories: cotton (combed, carded, organic, BCI, melange), cotton blends (poly cotton 65/35, 52/48, CVC), wool (pure, merino, wool-nylon blends), polyester (spun, high-tenacity, tex, filament, recycled rPET), viscose, nylon (Nylon 6 and Nylon 66), and modal (standard and micro modal). Beyond these categories, we source any commercially viable yarn specification through our global mill network.
Yes — free sampling is standard for every product. We ship representative samples (typically 500 g to 2 kg per specification) at our cost by international courier. You run your trial on your machines and only proceed to commercial order if satisfied. No charge, no obligation, no follow-up sales pressure.
Standard MOQ is one container-load — approximately 15–18 tonnes for a 20-foot FCL or 26–28 tonnes for a 40-foot HQ container. For smaller volumes, our mixed-container shipments consolidate 2–5 yarn types into one container, making 2–3 tonne specifications commercially viable when combined with other line items.
60+ markets globally. Active export programmes cover Southeast Asia (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore), Europe (UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Netherlands, Poland), and South America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile), plus North America, the Middle East and Africa on enquiry.
All standard Incoterms 2020: FOB (Free On Board), CIF (Cost Insurance Freight), CFR (Cost and Freight), EXW (Ex Works), DAP (Delivered At Place) and DDP (Delivered Duty Paid). Which Incoterm suits your order depends on your freight forwarder relationships, insurance preference and how much destination-country customs work your team handles.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (universally expected for export-grade production), GOTS (organic cotton), BCI (sustainable cotton), GRS (recycled content), RWS (responsible wool), Woolmark (wool purity), FSC (for modal and viscose), and REACH compliance (EU chemical regulation). Certification documentation travels with every relevant shipment and every certificate number is independently verifiable.
